Korea (Chhattisgarh): A significant seminar on the theme “Non-Communicable Diseases in Children – Prevention and Awareness” is set to be organized at the district headquarters of Korea district. The event is being jointly hosted by District Journalist Press Club Korea (Regd.), MCB District Press Club (Regd.), the District Administration Korea, and UNICEF.
The primary objective of the seminar is to raise awareness among society, parents, healthcare workers, public representatives, and media professionals about the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among children. The program aims to encourage collective efforts toward practical and sustainable solutions.
Across Chhattisgarh and the rest of India, non-communicable diseases have emerged as a serious and growing public health challenge. Particularly concerning is the increasing prevalence of childhood heart diseases, juvenile diabetes, sickle cell anemia, and mental health disorders. According to health experts, nearly 43 million deaths occur globally each year due to non-communicable diseases, while in India alone, approximately 5.8 million people lose their lives annually to these conditions. These diseases often require prolonged and expensive treatment, placing significant financial and emotional strain on affected families.
Chhattisgarh, being a predominantly tribal state with many geographically remote and inaccessible regions, faces additional challenges in ensuring equitable healthcare access. Alongside maternal and child health concerns, non-communicable diseases and mental health issues are rapidly emerging as critical areas of focus. It is estimated that around 40,000 individuals in the state are affected by sickle cell disease, while nearly 300,000 are carriers. This alarming scenario highlights the urgent need for widespread awareness campaigns and systematic screening initiatives.
The seminar will bring together health experts, medical practitioners, social workers, journalists, and administrative officials to deliberate on preventive strategies and early detection measures. Key discussions will focus on regular health check-ups, balanced nutrition, physical activity, mental well-being, and positive lifestyle modifications.
Speakers are expected to emphasize that behavioral changes—such as avoiding tobacco, consuming nutritious food, engaging in regular exercise, and managing stress effectively—can significantly reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases.
Organizers have appealed to public representatives, stakeholders, and media professionals to actively participate in the seminar and contribute their insights. They believe that responsible and constructive media engagement can play a crucial role in disseminating accurate scientific information and fostering widespread public awareness.
This seminar is not merely an event but a meaningful step toward shared responsibility. Through coordinated and sustained efforts, stakeholders aim to strengthen child health protection in the state and effectively address the growing challenge of non-communicable diseases.
